Downstream pressure reducing regulator, high pressure

Code: R760

The type R760 Pressure Reducing Valve maintains accurate control of downstream pressure. A typical application would be when a high pressure drop across the regulator is necessary. These regulators are suitable for most fluids including air, gas and oils. They are not however, suitable in steam applications. Temperature limitations are necessary to prevent any deterioration of elastomers used in the construction. Various trims are available including composition and metal seating in both balanced and unbalanced versions. A balanced trim is recommended in high pressure drop applications. A wide range of control springs are available for controlled pressures up to 52 barG (750 PSIG). Variations from standard valve include special materials to customer’s requirements and stellited trims.

Operation

The control spring loading on the diaphragm is balanced by the downstream pressure acting on the diaphragm underside. When downstream pressure drops spring load overcomes the diaphragm loading and opens the valve plug allowing more flow through the valve trim thus restoring the downstream pressure. Any increase in downstream pressure caused by a reduction in flow demand will force the diaphragm against the spring and close the valve plug thus reducing the flow through the valve and restoring pressure to the controlled setting. In applications of high pressure drop out of balance forces acting on the plug would have a significant effect on valve performance. Under such conditions a balanced trim is required. This trim type utilises a balancing piston that offsets the out of balance forces acting on the plug assembly.
