Downstream pressure balanced reducing regulator

Code: R1480PB

R1480 PB series valves are high capacity, self-contained reducing type pressure regulators of packless gland design. They are ideal for use where high or low pressure fluids such as air, gases, steam, oil or water, need extremely accurate control. A small loading valve feeds line fluid piped from upstream into the upper diaphragm chamber, balancing downstream pressure under the diaphragm.

To maintain upper diaphragm pressure the loading valve requires a continuous bleed to atmosphere through a needle valve. Provision must be made to pipe away dangerous fluid to a safe area. Alternatively, any air supply can be used for balancing, but for 80-100 p.s.i.g. of air, maximum downstream controlled pressure is limited to 80 p.s.i.g.

Double seat valves are recommended for most applications, but single seat trim can be used when the out of balance force on the plug is acceptable, i.e. on a low pressure drop system or with small trim sizes.

All valve plugs are hand lapped to achieve the best possible shut-off. For tighter closing, composition seating (elastomer or fluon ‘0’-rings) should be specified.

External control of set pressure by a sensing line connected under the diaphragm to a point further downstream, can be specified for greater accuracy, in lieu of the standard internal sensing.
