Downstream pilot operated pressure regulator

Code: R280

These self-contained pilot operated pressure regulators are capable of controlling set pressure to close limits. They have high capacity, are stable in operation and can be used for pressure control of liquids that are compatible with the materials of construction. In all cases the pilot bleeds downstream. Line fluid is used as the operating medium so the viscosity of the fluid should not exceed about 150 seconds Redwood No. 1 at flowing temperature.

Main Valve

The main valve is a globe, single seated type with V-port plug piston-operated and controlled by a pilot appropriate to the pressure and service. Type R280 is an assembly for downstream pressure control or relief service. Assemblies for differential pressure service are available and are designated types R280C and R290C.

The actuator piston is sealed by ‘0’-rings. Main valve seats are screwed in and renewable and all working parts are accessible without removing the body from the line.

Pilot Valve

Pilot construction is similar for pressure reducing or back pressure control The connections to the main valve change to suit the application.

Pilot valves have diaphragm pressure sensing and a range of springs are available.

For differential service or remote control of pressure setting pilot valves can be supplied which allow the spring chamber to be pressured from another line or any external service. The controlled pressure of the regulator is therefore the pilot valve spring pressure plus the loading pressure in the pilot valve spring chamber.

The pilot valve return spring ensures positive closure of the pilot valve double seated plug against maximum supply pressure and the valve seat is adjustable allowing the proportional band of the regulator to be adjusted to meet service conditions. Screwing the seat clockwise viewed from the seat end increases the sensitivity and reduces the proportional band of the regulator Pilot Valves for differential service have ‘0’-ring sealed adjusting screws and can be supplied with double diaphragm construction to ensure separation of the line and spring chamber loading fluids in the event of diaphragm rupture.
